Foundation Stage

Children learn and develop more in the first five years than any other time of their life. It is important to us that we have strong relationships with parents to help your children thrive and for Pegasus Early Years to become a place where children’s love of learning begins.

The Early Years Foundation Stage is all about how children learn, as well as what they learn. We provide opportunities for children to develop their own play and to explore independently alongside nurturing adults who support and scaffold their learning.

We encourage all children to:

  • Play and explore
  • To be active learners
  • To be critically thinkers.

Our children’s learning journey begins in the Rising Stars where children join around the age of 18 months. We provide a safe and secure environment for toddlers to become more independent and begin to form relationships outside of the family in a stimulating classroom. There are always a variety of activities on offer such as messy play, arts and crafts, story times and singing.

Children then move into the Nursery from the ages of 2 – 4 years old. Here, their independence and communication and language skills continue to grow in the stimulating classrooms and through activities such as movement and music, nature walks, cookery and painting.

The final year of Pegasus Early Years is spent in Reception where the 4 – 5 year olds build upon the skills they have been previously developing. Literacy, Maths, Science and Art lessons are introduced alongside subject specialist teachers for Computers, Music and Kiswahili. Physical Education lessons take advantage of our Astro-turf, extensive sports fields and heated swimming pool facilities.

Our Topics across all year groups are regularly changed and include themes such as Going on Safari, Space and Magical Creatures. These are supported by trips and visiting speakers. Afternoon activities include messy play, movement and dance and enhancing a love of books and stories with our school librarian.

The days in Pegasus Early Years are busy and fun!
