VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE IN YEAR 4!
Our preparatory school pupils have the best of both worlds, enjoying the familiarity and security of being taught by their class teacher for English, Maths, Science and Humanities whilst having specialist teaching in Art, Computing, Design Technology, Drama, French, Music, Kiswahili, Religious Studies, Physical Education and Games.
In Year 4 we set high expectations for all of our pupils and encourage them to take responsibility over their own learning and become independent in a variety of ways, preparing them for life in the Upper School. We deliver interactive lessons in all subjects and ensure that the children help to guide their own learning by setting goals at the beginning of a new topic.
To ensure each child’s needs are catered for, we deliver high quality, differentiated lessons and work closely with our Learning Support department. Children are grouped by ability for Mathematics, spelling and phonics to ensure that they are taught at a pace and level most suitable to achieve and progress.
Even with technology in the classroom, we still value learning outside the classroom. The children in Year 4 have the opportunity to complete field work in nearby areas, role play what it would be like to be an evacuee in World War Two, take part in a Roman feast and celebrate all their hard work by attending an outwards bounds residential trip to Sagana to celebrate the conclusion of their Lower School years!
