Preparing Pupils for Secondary Schools | The Banda

The Banda prides itself on preparing pupils well for entry to Secondary Schools at 13+. A strong relationship exists between The Banda and schools throughout Kenya, the UK, South Africa and other parts of the world.

One of the School’s aims : ‘To encourage an ambition to excel – in all areas of school life is evident in the outstanding results achieved at Common Entrance and scholarship level. Amongst the 31 children leaving The Banda in July 2016, 9 scholarships were achieved to schools within Kenya and the UK.  This year the current Year 8 cohort have achieved 11 scholarships.  More awards are expected prior to the end of the academic year in July 2017.

Scholarships have been awarded to Banda pupils by the following schools:

  • Merchiston Castle, UK
  • Malvern College, UK
  • Monmouth School, UK
  • Repton, UK
  • King’s School, Bruton, UK
  • CulfordShool, UK
  • Gresham’s School, UK
  • Hillcrest Secondary School, Kenya
  • Peponi Secondary School, Kenya
  • Brookhouse International School, Kenya

The scholarships or exhibitions achieved each year include Academic, Sport, Drama, Art, Music and All-Rounder awards. 

Pupils from The Banda go on to achieve great things and to assume positions of responsibility. It is of note that within the last 6 years The Banda pupils have gone on to include: one Head Boy of Harrow, two Head Boys of Cheltenham College and one Head Girl of Cranleigh, to name a few accomplishments.  

There is no doubt that The Banda ensures all-round quality education and in the words of Nicholas Allen, IAPS Chairman 2012-2013: 

“Pupils leave The Banda academically prepared for secondary school and also equipped with a range of skills and attitudes that will serve them well throughout their lives as friends, husbands and wives, parents, team players, and leaders in whatever field of endeavour they seek."
