The Banda provides a
planned progression of learning in classes of eighteen or less, ensuring
the close monitoring of the progress of each child. The school is split
into ten year groups. Nursery to Year One (1 - 6 years) is located in
Pegasus pre-prep, Years To to Four (6 - 9 years) are in the Junior
Department and Year Five to Eight (9 - 13 years) make up our Senior
School.
Pegasus Pre-Prep (1 - 6 years old)
Each class is taught by their own Class Teacher with specialist teachers taking the children for information communication technology, music and physical education.
The Pegasus academic programme is not only designed to stimulate and challenge but also to instill and consolidate the vital basic learning skills. Throughout their day the children take part in a carefully organized timetable, designed both for learning and enjoyment. There is never a dull moment in the Pre-Prep!. From their arrival in the morning children are fully and enthusiastically occupied with a wide range of structured activities.
Junior School (6 – 9 years old)
Pupils start in mixed ability classes for the first three years taught by their Formtaker with specialist teachers taking them for music, physical education and information communication technology. In Year Four there is ‘setting’ in Mathematics to ensure that the learning pace and teaching style is progressively tailored to each child’s particular needs.
Senior School (9 – 13 years old)
By Year Five, with entry into the Senior School, specialist subject teaching is introduced. The curriculum is designed to provide continuity and progression so complementing the work covered in the Junior School. The British National Curriculum provides the core of the academic programme and is broad and balanced. By Year Six elements of Common Entrance work are introduced.
The overall academic target is the 13+ Common Entrance Examinations, with provision for high achievers to sit Scholarships to leading independent schools around the world. Close links are maintained with them regarding Entrance and Scholarship arrangements and overall teaching patterns and standards.
