The Year 5's had an exciting start to the Senior School with an overnight camping trip in their first week, to Olepolos Country Club. We left on Thursday morning, with only an hour long drive out to Olepolos, to the South West of Nairobi.
The children loved the playground area, especially the maze-like construction of slides and hide-aways. The first few hours were spent playing on this and putting up tents. The teachers were impressed with the children's tent constructing skills, they managed mostly independently and helped each other constructively. It was a very hot afternoon so we then made good use of the pool, which also had a mini pool next to it, which was great for whirlpools! The rest of the afternoon was spent playing some team games and doing some competitive challenges as a class. After dinner, back in the tent area, the children took it in turns to tell stories around a campfire fire before getting cosy in bed as it had got quite cold and windy.
On Friday morning we had a warming cooked breakfast and hot chocolate and then took down camp. We then set off on a walk with our guide, we had some wonderful views across the Rift Valley and learnt some geographical facts about the area. It was a hot morning and the walk was quite strenuous in parts, so well done to everyone for persevering, especially up the big hill towards the end!
The children were exhausted by this point and the bus ride back to school was unusually quiet!
Well done to all the Year 5's for your excellent behaviour on the trip and for a great start to the New Year.
