Shamas at Banda

The Banda School has recently created a partnership with the Shamas Rugby Foundation (SRF). The SRF has been teaching rugby to underprivileged children in Nairobi since 2012. They use sport as a social vehicle and way to encourage children to develop the interpersonal skills needed to achieve in school.

The Banda School played host to twenty talented U13 boys from Kibera, Eastlands and Mathare on 25th May, 2015. The SRF team had previously experienced a great deal of success on tours of the UK and South Africa and were an extremely well drilled side.

The match was played in the true spirit of the game with a huge amount of support for both sides. After fifty gruelling minutes of intense action, the Shamas boys emerged as eventual winners. Both teams congratulated each other and the boys left the field to a rapturous applause from the side-line.

The Banda School has invited three teams from the Shamas Rugby Foundation back to play in a short series of small sided games to help the 1st VII in their preparations for the annual Ndume Sevens Tournament.
