learning support
Five experienced Learning Support teachers, fully qualified in Specific Learning Difficulties, are available to the children. They support the pupils ‘at risk’ of a weakness, identified at Pre-Prep, in the Junior School or Senior School.
The staff write (diagnose) and plan Individual Educational Plans on a multiplicity of learning difficulties ranging across the spectrum of Special Needs from the partially sighted to Dyslexia to ADHD to Dyscalculia to the Highly Able to Study Skills.
The Banda’s Learning Support specialists are trained in specific techniques, which differ from the usual methods of teaching reading and spelling. The Learning Support Department keep all staff up-to-date on a regular basis with their progressive and dedicated thoughts in this area.
Wherever possible a pupil ‘at risk’ of a weakness, or with a ‘Specific Learning Difficulty’ is offered a minimum of one school-based lesson to a maximum of three lessons. Support is considered and offered on an individual case-by-case basis. Extra specialist peripatetic support is available on site at The Banda through the Department. |
