Admission
of pupils to The Banda
The
Banda is split into three sections:
Pegasus
Pre-Prep – Crèche to Year 1 (1 – 5 year olds)
The
Junior School – Year 2 – Year 4 (6 – 8 year olds)
The
Senior School – Year 5 – Year 8 (9 – 13 year olds)
Entry to The
Banda is dependent on the capability of the individual child to benefit
from the broad educational aims of the school to promote education
generally.
Prospective
pupils are invited to visit the School with their parents, so that they
can view the facilities and meet the Headmaster and other relevant
staff. Entry is non-selective and there are no formal Entrance Tests but
the individual qualities of the prospective pupil and suitability for
life at The Banda will be key considerations in offering a place.
A Report from the
child’s current school would be helpful and entry may be made at any
point providing space is available. If The Headmaster decides it
necessary an assessment of academic ability may be required and this is
done informally within the school by our experienced Learning Support
Department.
There is no
discrimination at entry on grounds of race, religion, disability,
socio-economic background or gender and no preference is given to a
particular parental occupation.
Children moving
from Pegasus Pre-Prep to the main School will have priority in the
allocation of places in Year 2 but the School does encourage a very
healthy mix from its feeder kindergartens.
The Banda
endeavours to make places available to siblings, subject to space being
available in the relevant year group. Pupils should normally be the
correct age for the year group, based on 1st September cut
off with a pupil expecting to attain the age of thirteen in his/her last
prep. school year. Children born after the 1st September will
be put into the year below, so they go through as the oldest in
their year, rather than the youngest.
The Entrance Form
should be completed and returned to the School along with the relevant
deposits and the Headmaster will offer a place if the pupil is deemed
suitable. Prior to an offer being made parents or guardians must declare
any specific learning support need, medical condition or disability.
Application and offer of places may be made at any time of the year.
