Our Preparatory School’s Art Department | The Banda

"In Art individual talents are nurtured"

quote-mark Head of Art, The Banda School

THE ART DEPARTMENT AT THE BANDA IS A LIVELY, EXCITING, AND INVIGORATING PLACE WHERE PUPILS EXPERIENCE A WIDE RANGE OF ARTWORK AND MATERIALS THROUGH A CURRICULUM THAT IS FRESH AND STIMULATING.

Housed in a purpose built studio with high ceilings and ample natural light, pupils gain experience in drawing, painting and printmaking through the study of both historic and contemporary art practice.

Art is taught to the pupils in Early Years and up to Year 3 by their class teachers. From Years 4 to 8 they have a specialist Art teacher who begins to cover a multitude of themes and projects from still life imagery, to animation, to using technology in the classroom like iMac computers. Children are encouraged to be as creative as they wish. Open discourse leads each and every lesson whilst individual talents are nurtured.

Potential art scholars are enrolled in an art scholarship programme for intensive portfolio preparation with an excellent success rate. For the 2016-17 academic year 7 Art scholarships were achieved to top UK secondary schools both overseas and here in Kenya.

We celebrate and commend all art completed by pupils through school displays, our weekly newsletter and through our school social media environment.  Children have entered competitions against the best schools in Kenya as well as internationally, and often been winners.
